Funeral Singers Questions - FAQs

purple Letter Q
Are you really professional opera singers?
Yes, we are, and we perform with our opera company Hatstand Opera and other UK opera companies in UK venues and abroad. For more details, see our Funeral Singers page on our Singers for Funerals website.

purple Letter Q
How far do you travel?
We mainly perform in the London, Hampshire, Surrey and Berkshire areas, and around the western fringes of the M25. Of course, we can easily travel further on request. We also have an associate funeral singer in Birmingham and the West Midlands.

purple Letter Q
How much do you charge?
Our fees start at £165 per soloist plus travel, for funerals in the above areas.

purple Letter Q
Can I hear a sample of you singing?
You'll find various funerals music samples on our Hear Us page.

purple Letter Q
What types of funerals do you sing at?
We can sing at any type of funeral. We have sung at traditional CofE services, Irish Catholic funerals, a 'football' themed funeral for a devoted fan, simple cremation ceremonies, a traveller's funeral, and beside the grave for a burial. No two funeral services are the same, so contact us with your ideas or requirements.

purple Letter Q
Are funeral expense free from tax?
All funeral expenses, including any musicians, are exempt from tax if paid for by the estate. Ask your funeral director for more details.

purple Letter Q
I'm on benefits - can I get help with the cost of a funeral?
Yes, if you or your partner meet certain criteria, you may be eligible for a Funeral Payment from the Dept of Work & Pensions via your JobCentrePlus.

purple Letter Q
How can I contact you?
Either call us on 01252 511 762 during office hours, or email us.

purple Letter Q
I'm confused: crematorium or crematory? Crematoriums or crematories?
In the UK, we refer to a crematorium or crematoriums (although technically the plural should be crematoria). The adjective crematory in the UK refers to anything to do with cremations. However, the usual North American term for a crematorium is a crematory, and the USA-style plural is crematories.
