Over the last four years, we've started to notice the trends in music played at funerals, with Adele exiting stage left to be replaced by Lilly Allen and others, but some classic pop versions last way beyond their moment in the charts.
Putting aside the Frank Sinatra and the Louis Armstrong classics, the one that constantly surprises us is "Time to Say Goodbye", especially as the only words sung in English are "(It's) time to say goodbye."
It's a song that we, as opera singers, have sung both as a solo and a duet for years, it's listed on our website, we have a superb backing track so organists don't have to struggle with it (it's a pig to play), and yet we only occasionally asked to sing it. Which is a pity, as it's a wonderful item sung live, especially in spaces where the top notes can soar high into the rafters.
So, if a family that loves music asks for this item, do bear us in mind!
